DIERETDIERET
Distance Internet Education on Renewable Energy Technology

A Post-graduate Programme
INFORSE launched DIERET in 1999.  Each round includes 25-30 students, and rounds have been held in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008.

The 300 pages of digital course material include 450 illustrations in five modules: Why Renewables?; Solar Energy; Biomass Energy; Hydro Power; Wind Energy; Alternative Fuels for Transportation (New in 2006).
and Annex Chapters: Organising and Policy Making, and Units.

There is a set of questions to which the students should answer after they have read the study material. The study course runs in electronic form without any paper except that on which the certificate will be issued by INFORSE Secretariat to graduates of the course.

Why Attend?
Attending the course is an opportunity for member organisations to update their knowledge on the current state of renewable technology and their utilisation. The course also helps NGO members use reliable arguments in campaigns and lobbying for sustainable energy development as well as in advising people on how to use renewables.

INFORSE is asking its member organisations to encourage their staff and members to take the DIERET course, which is offered for free.

Other Sustainable Energy Education Opportunities
Many organisations have developed educational material on environment. Some developed material on sustainable energy as well, as part of the general environmental material. The level of these materials varies from primary to high school level.

On this page, there is a number of examples of material, primarily material that is available via the internet. The wesbites below has links to organisations with material for education on sustainable energy - online as well as on paper and other media.

European Sustainable Energy Education Forum (ESEEF) is a network established at a Conference in 2000, in the framework of an ALTERNER project by organisations and institutions working with sustainable energy and education on primary and secondary school level. The website has links to organisations in 11 European countries.

Eco-Schools is an international programme for environmental education for sustainability. It includes practical energy efficiency and renewable energy among the activities in the eco-schools.

Centre for Research, Education, and Training in Energy (CREATE) is a UK educational charity for promoting energy education. They have educational material available on a number of websites: Funergy, the School Energy Program to save energy in UK schools, as well as Energy Wise Project & E-Team.

SPARE an international school project for energy efficiency in schools and education that has been run by the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature since 1996. The international coordination stopped in 1999, but some countries run SPARE on their own, and especially in Russia there was a substantial development in 2001/2002.
