EU Climate Change Program (ECCP), News from April, 2001

Since July 2000, INFORSE-Europe has formerley taken part in EU's Climate Change Program.

To prepare ratification of the Kyoto Protocol, the European Commission (EC) established ECCP with several groups with stakeholders: environmental NGO's, industry, energy suppliers, etc. ECCP is a program for measures within EU-countries, and does NOT deal with joint implementation, emmissions trading outside EU, nor the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). INFORSE-Europe is represented in the ECCP working group on energy supply (WG2), and with an alternate position in the working group on energy demand (WG3). The working groups finished their work at the end April 2001, and the ECCP report is ready in June 2001.
It will be considered by the EU Council of Ministers and the EU Parliament, see final statement at the ECCP homepage. INFORSE-Europe will continue to follow the process of EU's ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.
